All TV mailbag: Summer schedules, Idol, etc.

Today's column is a mailbag, which used to be a weekly tradition, but which is now an irregular tradition at best, since the blog(s) provide a more immediate opportunity for reader interaction. Letters include questions about summer premiere dates, more "American Idol" conspiracies, the mass exodus of crime procedural third and fifth bananas, and more.

As for the rest, Adam Beach got caught in a budget crunch at "SVU," and I'd pin most of the others on actors getting bored with the undemanding nature of a supporting role on a procedural cop show.

I read that Dianne Neal was fired and was upset, but no other details were given. I was hoping you'd heard something!

Won't miss Adam Beach because he basically blew in the role, but I'll miss the hell out of Jesse Martin, even though I love Jeremy Sisto and Anthony Anderson.

Don't know where else to put this but from a EW article: (On Burn Notice BSG's Tricia Helfer) "plays Carla, the public face of the folks who burned Michael. It was made clear at the end of last season that Michael is being recruited for something, that people have plans for him, and she's the one who delivers those plans."
cool

I believe they've said that she chose to leave, and that they didn't want her to go.

Adam Beach ... feh. We called his character on SVU "Mumbly McKnowitall." Hate!

The thing I found most odd about these procedural departures is that three of the shows (Law & Order, CSI, and SVU) chose to use the exact same premise, "Cop under investigation for suspicious shooting," to write their characters out.

It's all so clear now. Michael is the last of the final five Cylons, and Bruce Campbell is the one true Cylon god.
